“ZORG Ukraine” shares the knowledge of how to get biogas from solid waste

By far, waste sorting plants are designed to process two categories of input supplies: waste and recycled materials (paper, metal, plastic etc), with food wastes comprising up to 30-35% of total waste volume. As verified by the leading experts of ZORG Ukraine, installation of bio-technological equipment allows sorting plants to gain considerable profit either in the form of biogas or electricity.

Main byproduct of organic material decomposition is biogas: one ton of food waste can produce up to 160-200 m3 of biogas. It can be used as natural gas or fuel for vehicles, stored, burned for generation of heat and electric power.

Due to employment of anaerobic digestion processes, biogas plants are also able to produce organic fertilizer, containing biologically active substances and microelements, in relatively short time span (30 days). Major advantages of organic fertilizer produced in biogas plant are as follows:

  • Maximum ammonia preservation and accumulation: Within continuous process of manure storage 50% of ammonia is lost. Thanks to anaerobic digestion in biogas plant total amount of ammonia is increased by 10-15%.
  • Presence of active microflora: Organic matter humification leads to a higher level of activity of soil microorganisms. Ammonia fixing and other microbiological processes are also considerably intensified.

At present, bio-technology is the most efficient method that can be used to recycle food wastes, produce biogas and high-quality organic fertilizer. Organic fraction conversion technology is performed by means of biochemical decomposition (hydrolysis) of high-molecular compounds into simple compounds. As a result, you get highly manageable biomass, free from any smells, that’s ready to be used as an organic fertilizer.
