Make It Better Magazine Debuts in Chicago's Northern Suburbs
Wilmette, IL.
October 16, 2009
The premiere issue of Make It Better, a new monthly magazine for women living in Chicago’s Northern suburbs, began arriving in 50,000 mailboxes over the weekend.
North Shore women whose accomplishments have altered the course of their communities, the county and the world are celebrated in the inaugural issue. Among them are Janet Meakin Poor, a driving force behind saving and conserving the planet’s botanical heritage: Lisa Watters, founder of an organization focusing on researching pediatric brain tumors; and a pair of brownie leaders who are shaping the next generation of women leaders.
The magazine is the third product focusing on women’s interests and issues from the fast growing women-owned Make It Better venture. The magazine joins a successful publishing line that also includes MakeItBetter.net and the Makeitbetter.net weekly e-newsletter.
Mirroring the look and themes of MakeItBetter.net, the magazine includes articles on family, home, dining, entertainment, and local treasures. In addition to the feature on amazing women, the first issue also has articles on pet spas, finding the perfect Thanksgiving bird and the safest cars for first time teenage drivers.
Make It Better differs from other websites and magazines by living its mission of making the lives of women and the lives of others better. It partners with a large number of not-for-profit organizations. New subscribers to its emailed weekly Better Letter can select a charity from a menu of partners who receive a $5 donation in exchange for the subscription.
Additionally MakeItBetter.net provides an auction site to not-for-profit organizations who receive 100% of the proceeds. Make It Better also has pledged to donate 5% of its first year’s gross advertising revenue to a charity to be selected from a list provided by readers and advertisers.
The publishing company is headquartered in Wilmette, Illinois in the heart of the North Suburbs it serves. Its advisory board is a “Kitchen Cabinet” made up entirely of women. The company is headed by founder Susan B. Noyes and Co-Founder Mindy Fauntleroy.
