Spa as an alternative stress buster

More and more people are seeking spa treatments as an alternative and holistic way to reduce stress.

Globally, the spa industry earns about US$60 billion annually, this according to the International SPA Association.

The association reported that one in four Americans has been to a spa. As of June 2008, there were 18,100 spas in United States alone. In the last eight years, the number of spa locations in the United States has grown at an annual average of 20%, the association added.

The International SPA Association is recognized as a professional organization and voice of the spa industry. The association represents health and wellness facilities and providers in 83 countries.

Meanwhile, in a survey conducted by Ernst & Young on spa benchmark showed that spa-goers in Dubai in June rise by 39 percent since January of this year.

Gone were the days when spas were enjoyed only by the affluents. Gone were the days as well when spas could only be availed in luxury hotels.

Nowadays, spas are highly accessible to middle and upper-class alike due to competitive prices. Spa treatments are also not anymore exclusively availed in luxury hotels.

Aside from luxury hotels, many independent businesspersons have started their own spa businesses. Spa clients can now also choose from a wide array of spa services.

Spa services include therapeutic treatments such as massage, facial treatments, pedicures and manicures, detoxification and exfoliation programs.

Spas are created basically to pamper, indulge, spoil rotten the clients' senses, to evoke emotions--in effect, reduce the clients' stress.

Spa break is one of the best gifts you could give to a special friend or to a family member whose birthday is coming up.
