New BRAVIA Theatre systems offer style, simplicity and superb performance: the DAV-DZ range

Weybridge, 25 February 2008 - Sony announces its new range of DAV-DZ BRAVIA Theatre systems, each styled to match the look and feel of the latest BRAVIA TVs. The new systems use BRAVIA Sync, for simpler control of TV and system together. Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto-Calibration ensures fast, simple and automatic multi channel surround sound set up, and with Sony’s DIGITAL MEDIA PORT you can connect your portable and wireless music devices for a full Home Theatre sound experience.
In addition, the systems will now upscale existing DVD collections to 1080p for the best picture on the latest HD1080 BRAVIA flatscreen TVs, and offer Dialogue Enhancer for clearer dialogue and the best sound balance even at low volume. Top of the range models also offer wireless rear speakers, using Sony’s newly-developed S-AIR technology.

Styled to match BRAVIA TVs – and with BRAVIA Sync for seamless operation
Many consumers are no longer happy with a stack of separate components in their home theatre system: they want a sleek all-in-one set-up, styled to match their TV. Nor do they want a stack of remote control handsets – they’d much rather the whole home entertainment system worked at the touch of a single button. That’s why Sony’s new DAV-DZ BRAVIA Theatre range has been designed to reflect the look and feel of the latest BRAVIA TVs – and uses BRAVIA Sync, an enhanced version of BRAVIA Theatre Sync, to give greater system control integration.
With a BRAVIA Theatre system and BRAVIA TV connected by an HDMI cable, BRAVIA Sync now gives you complete control of system and TV from a single remote control. The systems now offer:
- One Remote Easy Operation, with access to menu functions of connected products from a single handset.
- Simple BRAVIA Sync set-up: when connected to a BRAVIA TV via HDMI, functions of all BRAVIA Sync components are synchronised.
- One-touch Play: playback and theatre sound setting at the touch of a single button.
- System Audio Control from one handset.
- System Standby: just turn off your TV and the whole system goes into standby mode.
Digital Cinema Auto Calibration – perfect set-up at the touch of a button
Like Sony’s flagship home cinema receivers, the new DAV-DZ systems also offer Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC). Using a microphone supplied, DCAC measures the position of the speakers and listeners within your room, then sets up the system to give the very best sound wherever you sit.
Dialogue Enhancer
Many of us find we have to listen at modest levels, either due to neighbours or late at night, and so Sony’s new systems have a Night Mode with Dialogue Enhancer, keeping speech clear while limiting the volume of sudden sound effects.
DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
Consumers store their music in a variety of places: on pocket players, on their mobile phones or on their computers. Using Sony’s modular DIGITAL MEDIA PORT (DMPORT), the new DAV-DZ systems can communicate with all these devices, enabling music to be played through the home theatre system.
A variety of optional adapters are available to connect to the port on the rear of the systems, and these include mobile phones1, WALKMAN® and other MP3 players, Bluetooth devices and home wi-fi networks. New adapters are available or on the way for the latest generation of iPods, and the iPod Touch/iPhone, this last one also offering video playback via the system.
Most of the DMPORT devices offer charging of connected portable devices.
HDMI 1080p upscaling
All new DAV-DZ models now offer full 1080p upscaling. This enables them to make the most of existing DVD collections when used with the latest BRAVIA HD1080 TVs from Sony.
USB playback – and record – with Portable Audio Enhancer
Music stored on USB memory devices, such as Sony’s Micro Vault range or NWD-B series MP3 players, can be played back through the new systems with simple plug and play operation. But the systems can now also ‘rip’ music from CDs to such devices via its USB port, meaning you don’t need a computer to make your favourite music portable.
In addition, Sony’s Portable Audio enhancer compensates for those frequencies lost when music is compressed to lossy formats such as MP3, making music sound more open and vibrant. It works with USB devices, the DM Port and even front panel analogue inputs.
