Forza 2 Motorsports Funfilled Failure

Need for Speed, Burnout, Grand Turismo, and even Mario Kart. What do these have in common? They are all more fun than Forza Motorsport 2. There is little to no excitement in the game itself. When I got the chance to play the game there wasn’t much that got me too revved up about it. Yes the cars look great. Yes, there is more customization than you can shake a stick at. In fact, there is almost an entirely separate game in customizing, selling, and trading you cars, and that actually has music in it.

As I continued to play, I realized that this game is for the, “ultra hardcore, I love NASCAR type scene.”

It started simply with the fact that there is no music or any variation in tracks. Aside from a few cities I raced through most of these tracks were outdoor tracks that made me think I was expected to be an actual race car driver.

I think the music has been removed so you can hear the realism of the car engine as you accelerate, tires squeal through tight turns, and the inevitable bang as your car crumples, when you didn’t take that turn just right.

You can’t deny the physics of this racing game. The fact that when you do hear that fateful sound of metal joining with concrete as you fishtail into a wall is impressive. Your car will look and respond accordingly which is just as frustrating as if you had wrecked your brand new Nissan.

The online play is comprehensive, and you have the opportunity to trade cars with other players in different regions of the world. That isn’t to say that you can’t have your Ferrari in the single player mode, but if all you want to do is play against your friends online, or see if you can beat anyone at Forza 2 Motorsports then you are going to have to trade cars with other people on Xbox Live, which is cool but, eh.

All in all racing is more than just sexy cars, and shiny and glazed graphics. There is no fun in the races themselves. Remember when games were fun? Forza 2 Motorsports gives you the option to view your telemetry. Why do I care what is happening with my telemetry? Does it do anything that will make the game more fun? No!

If I have to go online to find Forza cheat codes so I can see how I can get an advantage just to see if this will be more fun there is something very wrong, and even that was disappointing. Changing you care from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive doesn’t do much, and makes you wonder if that was even a real cheat code.
